My Sunday Hike with Chris Connard from the Audubon

This is Chris Connard's report from our hike on Sunday.

Kanaka Valley--Pine Hill Preserve, El Dorado, US-CA
Apr 12, 2015 7:23 AM - 11:46 AM
Protocol: Traveling
1.5 mile(s) One-way
Comments:     Pine Hill Preserve bird tour. Calm with thin clouds. Walked to Morning Glory Hill and back. Most notable non-bird was a Blainville's Horned Lizard. After it was first spotted, it moved to shelter under vegetation, but remained partially visible for all to see and even allowed scope views. A few of us had quick views of what was probably a California Striped Racer going across the path. Also seen were Western Tiger, Anise, and Pipevine Swallowtails, Bramble Hairstreak, Red Admiral, California Ringlet, and Painted Lady butterflies. Notable plants included Stebbins' Morning Glory, Pine Hill Ceanothus, Red Hills Soaproot, Ithuriel's Spear, Butter and Eggs, Paintbrush, Pretty Face, Popcorn Flower (sp.?), Buttercup (sp.?), Globe Lilly (or Fairy Lantern), and Mallow (sp.?).
